Description
Description
Jungle Crumble is a celebration of the plethora of animal species that were so often featured in Wildsmith’s children’s books and are what Liberty consider his iconic Wildsmith signature. The breadth of his techniques of colour and texture application, be it through adding sand, using palette knives to apply coloured gouache, or collage allow for the incredible variety in depth of colour and tone in say, the texture of an animal’s skin or fur, the delicacy of a bird’s feathers, the subtle consistency of foliage, the character of landscape or just the wow factor of his graphics. Animals in this print have been taken from several books such as ‘Circus’ (1970), ‘The Owl and the Woodpecker’ (1971), ‘Jungle Party’ (1974), and ‘The Nest’ (1983). Keen to emulate the key storytelling aspect of Wildsmith’s illustrations Liberty arranged the animals in gatherings as if they were having secret meetings to discuss animal politics.
