Struggling to get the perfect fit across the bodice in your handmade tops and dresses? Confused by conflicting advice online? This two-day course is designed to give you clarity and confidence in fitting sleeveless bodices.
You’ll work with both darted and princess-seam bodices, using commercial patterns to understand the principles of good fit. Through a mix of tissue fitting and toiling, you’ll learn how to recognise common fitting issues and make precise adjustments tailored to your own shape.
What you'll learn:
- How to measure accurately and choose the right pattern size
- How to tissue-fit patterns and identify fitting issues
- How to recognise how paper adjustments affect garment shape
- How to adjust and refine a toile
- How to transfer those changes back to your pattern
- How to tackle common fit issues including:
- Full or small bust
- Sloping or square shoulders
- Short or long nape-to-waist
- Flat or sway back
By the end of the weekend, you’ll have a well-fitted bodice toile and the skills to apply these techniques to other patterns with confidence.
Is this class for you? Suitable for confident sewists who have sewn a number of garments using commercial patterns.
Materials: Bodice patterns will be provided as part of the course - we will request your key measurements before the class so this can be prepared for you. Please note: this workshop focuses on sleeveless bodices. Sleeves and bodice-to-skirt adjustments may be discussed briefly if time allows. You will require 1m of calico plus some Swedish pattern paper (both available in store on the day).
